Wollongong City Hyundai's Lawson Puho Awarded Best Service Technician in the World

Hyundai Motor Company International held its 12th Hyundai World Skill Olympics at its Technical Training Centre in Yangpyeong, South Korea this week. Since 1995, Hyundai Motor Company has held the biennial Skill Olympics to test and celebrate the very best service experts from the company’s dealership networks around the world.

Lawson Puho from Wollongong City Hyundai has been awarded the Gold Medal, finishing ahead of the best technical representatives of America (2nd Place) and Russia (3rd Place) to earn the much coveted designation as the leading Hyundai Service Technician in the World.

Graduating from the Hyundai Australia Apprentice Academy in 2011, Mr Puho starting employment with Wollongong City Hyundai as Workshop Controller in January 2016 and has now made his way to the top of the automotive world in 2017.

At the World Skill Olympics Closing Ceremony, Mr Puho said: “It is a great honor to be recognized as one of the best Hyundai service experts globally. The level of competition was so high and featured some highly skilled colleagues, so it was an immensely proud moment when I discovered I had won. I learned a lot from my fellow competitors that will help me continue to provide the best possible service and expertise to our customers.”

Director Ducksang Jang, Head of International Service Division, said: “For 22 years, the Hyundai World Skill Olympics has been a fantastic opportunity for our colleagues from around the world to work together and find new ways to improve our service quality. This is one of many initiatives we conduct, that aims to give our service personnel the latest skills to provide all our customers with the very best service and improve customer satisfaction in all markets.”

This international award is a welcome addition to the Wollongong City Hyundai Trophy Cabinet after the Team was also awarded Regional Service Manager of the Year, Regional Service Advisor of the Year, Regional Technician of the Year, Australian Technician of the Year, as well as the Regional Award for Best Customer Satisfaction by Hyundai Australia in March 2017.

Wollongong City Hyundai Service Manager, Michael Bright, had this to say about all of the accolades: "It's absolutely awesome. Lawson's win was completely deserved and a massive boost for all the Team here. He's worked hard in all areas of his craft and expertise, and now to be named Hyundai's Best Technician for 2017 is a huge achievement. His award and all of the regional and national awards our Service Team have won over the past 12 Months demonstrate our commitment to delivering the highest standards of customer service to all of our guests and strong performance in the maintenance and repair of Hyundai vehicles in the Illawarra.”
